BI Technologies

Peart-Hannon builds Business Intelligence capabilities based on technologies such as Scorecards and Dashboards, Data Warehouses, and Dynamic Reporting.  So, to understand BI, you'll need to understand these terms and how they work together to provide you the information you need to monitor and improve your organization's performance.  But, what makes these information technologies into a Business Intelligence capability?  It's the Key Performance Indicators, or KPI, that make the difference.

Key Performance Indicators (KPI)

A KPI could be likened to a formula that has as its inputs data values from one or more of your data resources (i.e. databases, spreadsheets or text files) and an output that is a simple value that indicates a meaningful metric for your organization.  It might be as straight-forward as "Net New Monthly Sales", or it might be a less obvious indicator such as "Recruitng Process Efficiency".  In either case, someone from your organization who is expert in that particular area of your business will help identify where the necessary data exists to calculate your KPI, and help determine the formula that accurately represents the KPI's value.  Since KPIs are pre-defined, they can also be pre-calculated.  KPIs typically include the formula for calculating the metric, a goal that indicates the expected value for satisfactory performance, and a range which indicates if the KPI value is below acceptable levels or exceeding expectations. They can be calculated on a nightly basis, when your databases are typically less busy, and stored for retrieval when you view your scorecard or dashboard.

With that in mind, now follow this thread into the Technologies discussion to learn more about the tools Peart-Hannon uses to build a BI capabiltiy.
