Client Profile
This construction project management company is ranked among the top twenty such firms nationally with offices and projects nationwide.
Challenge
Construction project management is a very competitive business favoring centralized, local firms in which information and people are more accessible. Effectively competing for and delivering on large construction projects requires that different functional business units -- planning, bidding, subcontracting, procurement, project management, billing, accounting -- each interact with similar information about completed projects, current projects and subcontractors. Speed and accuracy directly impact whether projects are won and whether they are completed successfully.
If different decentralized functional units could interact with the same information used by other functional units elsewhere, this company could leverage their vast experience-based knowledge and increase the speed at which accurate, useful information is disseminated nationwide. Decentralization would be a competitive advantage rather than an obstacle to continued growth.
Solution
Peart-Hannon recommended the use of a web-based system that would be easily accessible to everyone in the company according to their unique interaction with an enterprise-wide database.
Approach
Peart-Hannon began by meeting with executives and key managers and staff to learn about their current business processes, to get suggestions about improving them and to gather requirements for the new system. The assessment resulted in Peart-Hannon designing and building six web-based modules each serving different needs for different functional groups, but all sharing the same database.
Results
This client has achieved a steady, controlled growth rate of 10% per year due in large part to their ability to fulfill the information needs that enable employees nationwide to anticipate rather than react to obstacles and opportunities --- their key to successful projects and delighted customers.
